Mrs. Felt, 96, North Iowa Resident 82 Years, Dies
Married in 1857 at Osage, Moving From There to Portland Farm

Mrs. Mary L. Felt, 96, who has resided in and near Mason City and in North Iowa for the past 82 years, died at her home, 129 Second stret northwest, at noon Christmas day. She had been in fair health until her last birthday, which was the last day she sat in her chair and conversed with visitors about old times.

Mary Louise Whitaker was born in Brookfield, Orange county New York Oct. 10, 1838. At about the age of 8 years she moved westward with her family, stopping for a time in Pennsylvania and then moving on westward by covered wagon until the family moved into Iowa in 1852. From Monona the family moved to Osage in 1853, the same year the town of Osage was platted.

Married at Osage.

On Dec. 1, 1857, she was married to Alonzo Sidney Felt at Osage. The couple moved to a farm in Portland township called the Portland stock farm, Mr. Felt being the second man to settle in the township. It was here they resided for 38 years. Nine children were born to this union, three of whom survive Mrs. Felt. Susan Esther, Frank Segal, Lilly Dale, Charles Henry, Nettie Maude and Arthur Alonzo preceded their mother in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo, April 7, 1895.

She was one of the first members of the Church of Christ.

Three Sons Survive.

Surviving Mrs. Felt are three sons, Clarence Claude Felt, 129 Second street northwest; Benjamin Franklin Felt, Rockledge, Fla.; and Harry Lee Felt, Findlater, Sask., Canada. All three sons plan to be in attendance at the funeral. A sister, Mrs. Will Owen, Osage and a brother, Joe Whitaker, Harvey, N. Dak. also survive.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. David L. Kratz, pastor of the church will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The body was taken to the Randall funeral home.
