Thursday, October 20, 2016MASON CITY — Donald E. Shinn, 85, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Graveside inurnment services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with Chaplain Janet Dorenkamp, Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. There will be no visitation. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be directed to the IOOF Home or Hospice of North Iowa. Don was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Mason City the son of Vernon and Mabel (McConnell) Shinn. He graduated from Mason City High School then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Mason City. Don’s most recent employment was with K-Mart as a receiving manager. A few of Don’s interests included spending time in his yard and caring for his garden and flowers.
Don is survived by several nieces and one nephew, Judith Ann Swanson, Ruth Lea Henry, Debra Dunaway, JoAnn Dunaway, Brenda Underwood and Patrick Michael Swanson; several great-nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Vernon Jr., and one sister, Dorothy Swanson.
