The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Spring Harbor, Nora Springs.

Doug was born April 27, 1973, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Charles H. Levad and Trena J. Levad. He moved to Mason City, Iowa, with his family in 1977 and continued to call this area home.

Doug filled his life with kindness toward others and never met a stranger. He was the family comedian and once aspired to compete with Rich Little. Doug filled his life with faith, love for his family, and compassion for others in need. His charm and humor continue to invoke stories at family gatherings. He was an adored and wonderful uncle always dispensing gift card and Christmas cards. Mental illness did nothing to lessen Doug’s resilience and zest for life. He was fortunate to have strong family, community support to help oversee his needs, and from his Spring Harbor support staff, Robert Weir, who he developed a wonderful friendship with.

Doug loved sports. He was a member of the Mason City Mohawk diving, football and wrestling teams at high school. Middle school years were filled with baseball, Tae Kwon Do tournaments, and swim team competitions. Tony is eternally grateful that you protected him from the neighbor’s ginormous dog, saving his life that one day!

Left to cherish his memory are his sister Lisa (Randy) Pohlman and brother Anthony (Nikki Welle) Levad, all of Mason City; nieces and nephews: Amanda (Drew) Holland, Samantha (Greg) Rickard, Kelsey Carlson, Jacob Carlson, Hailey Compton, Athena, Alexander, and Rosella Levad, McKenna Rickard, and Kobey, Kamryn, and Kaitlyn Pohlman along with a very large extended family.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and other extended family.
