MASON CITY -- Ivan L. Coates, 94, of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 13, 1996) at Iowa Odd Fellows Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. James Hayes officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield, with Moose Lodge services at 7 p.m. and a scripture vigil at 7:30 p.m.

Ivan L. Coates was born March 26, 1901, in Rockwell, the son of John and Mildred (Funk) Coates. He attended country school in Geneseo No. 3. After school he helped on the family farm and worked for the Meyer Garage in Rockwell. He also worked as a salesman for the Archer Oil Co. He was united in marriage to Esther Gerdes. Esther passed away in 1935.

He moved to Mason City in 1947 when he began working for the Holsum Bakery as a mechanic. On Feb. 26, 1949, he married Pauline (Yeggy) Reinig in Mason City. After retiring from Holsum Bakery, he began working part time for the Volkswagen dealership in Mason City until completely retiring at the age of 82.

Ivan enjoyed collecting coins and license plates in his spare time. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, and was a 48-year member of the Moose Lodge, Mason City.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Brackey and her husband, Dean, of Mason City; one stepdaughter, Rose Ann Stille and her husband, Harlan, of Mason City; four stepsons, Russell Reinig and his wife, Jean, of Lincoln, Neb., Lester Reinig and his wife, Wilma, of Phoenix, Ariz., James Reinig and his wife, Darlene, of Mesa, Ariz., and Kenneth Reinig and his wife, Mary, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 42 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, and 14 great- great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his parents, John and Mildred; and one stepson, Don.
