MASON CITY -- Paul J. Clausen, 75, of 1705 S. Carolina Ave., died Friday (Jan. 12, 1996) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Richard D. Scheerer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. The casket will be closed at the church.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or Mercy Cancer Center.

Paul was born Dec. 17, 1920, at Mason City, the son of William V. and Rose (Fencl) Clausen. Paul graduated from Mason City High School in 1938 and Hamilton Business College in 1940. He married Wilma Jean Lambert on Oct. 18, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45 aboard the U.S.S. Susan B. Anthony, a troop transport, until its sinking in the English Channel on D-Day. After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he entered into business with his father and brothers in Clausen Plumbing and Heating, and continued until he retired in 1983.

Paul was a long-time member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served on several boards, lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 733 and past commander. He was also a member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 375, Plumbers l 405 and life member of the American Legion.

His loves were his family and friends, his church, his Northern Minnesota cabin, and his coffee crowd at the Maid-Rite.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Mason City; two daughters, Karen Hackman and husband, Robert, Mason City, and Shelley Wallace and husband, Greg, Troy, Ill.; one son, Steve Clausen and wife, Ann, Mason City; grandchildren, Brian Millard and wife, Tammy, of Mason City, Becky Anderson and husband, Robert, of Hickory, N.C., Matt Clausen of Mason City, Amy Clausen of Mason City, Brady Gruhn of Lackland Air Force Base, Kimberly Gruhn of Troy, Ill., Kelly Wallace of Troy, Ill., Katie Hackman of Rochester, Minn., and Molly Hackman of St. Paul, Minn.; great-grandson, Brandon Millard of Mason City; two sisters, Rita Speakar of Mason City, and Rosemary Massey of Fullerton, Calif.; one brother, Vern Clausen of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
