MASON CITY -- Clarence "Red" Clausen, of 720 N. Federal Ave., died Friday (Oct. 6, 1995) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. "Red" had attained the age of 73 years, six months and 14 days.

Funeral services and remembrance of Clarence's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E. Officiating will be the Rev. Vince Flippo of the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery where full military honors will be performed by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to Hospice of North Iowa who took such good care of "Red".

Clarence was born on March 22, 1922, in Mason City, one of five children to John and Eva (Overturf) Clausen. He honorably served his country in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines and received his discharge from Fort Leavenworth Separation Center in 1946. He also served for several years in the National Guard.

He was united in marriage to Mary Curley on Dec. 11, 1948, in Mason City. To this union were born five sons.

During his working years "Red" was a driver for Betsy Ross Bread Co. and then for State Brand Creamery for over 30 years, retiring in 1984.

Clarence spent many happy years bowling for several different leagues in Mason City and was the state singles champion in 1953.

For his efforts in bowling, he was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991. He was a member of the Gallagher Post of the American Legion in Rockwell and the San Juan-Marne Post No. 733 of the V.F.W. in Mason City. He was a very active recruiter for the V.F.W. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge, Mason City. He also was a great fan of all types of ballgames and enjoyed his grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Mary, Mason City; four living sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and his wife, Linda, St. Paul, Minn., Jim and his wife, Deanna, Norwalk, Bob and his wife, Darla, Des Moines, and Pat and his wife, Pam, Mason City. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Esther) Wheeler and Ruth Eppens, both of Mason City; one brother Milford and his wife, Joan Clausen, Dubuque; and 11 special grandchildren.

"Red" was preceded in death by his son, Steven in 1975 following an accident; three brothers, Chuck, Don, and Kenny; and one sister, Geraldine Clausen; as well as his parents.
