Thursday, December 28, 2006MASON CITY — Nellie G. Billings, 101½, of Mason City, died Monday (Dec. 25, 2006) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Thom Christian of First Congregational Church in Clear Lake officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Nellie Billings Memorial Fund.
Nellie was born July 12, 1905, in rural Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, the daughter of George U. and Belle M. (Curtis) Morris. She attended school in Cerro Gordo County and Mason City.
On August 25, 1922, she married Walter H. Billings in Des Moines. Nellie worked for Deckers for 27½ years before retirement in 1970.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and baking. Nellie loved her family and especially enjoyed babies. She collected cups and saucers, salt and pepper shakers and cream and sugar bowls.
Survivors include one daughter: Norma Jean Dye, of Clear Lake; daughter-in-law: Donna Billings, of Mowbridge, S.D.; six grandchildren: Suzanne Bisgrove (Jerry) of Ankeny, Debbie Schroeder (Doug) of Clear Lake, Terry Vermedal (Karen) of Naperville, Ill., Becky Hall (Tom) of Mason City, Ric Vermedal (Jean) of Plymouth, and Jim Billings (Sherrie) of Hayden, Idaho; 12 great-grandchildren: Chad Bisgrove (Carol), Jody Bisgrove, Judd Bisgrove, Stac Schroeder, Spencer Schroeder (Missy), Bob Hall, Jenni Anderson (Mark), Randy Hall (Julie), Julie Bratton, Tammy Earle, and James Billings, Aaron Vermedal; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter in 1959; one infant daughter; one daughter: Frances Vermedal; two sons: Ken Billings and Morris Billings; four sisters and one brother.
