December 26, 2000MASON CITY - Martha M. Bieth, 80, of Mason City, died Sunday (Dec. 24, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral mass will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth Street S.E, with the Reverend Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., in Mason City, where a Scriptural Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Martha M. Bieth Memorial Fund.
Martha was born Sept. 3, 1920, in Tipton, the daughter of Wilbur "Bert" and Daisey Elizabeth (Thede) Morden. She graduated from Tipton High School and from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Martha began working as a dental hygienist for Nettleton's Dental Practice in 1940.
She was united in marriage to Gordon Bieth on Oct. 11, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. Martha retired after 35 years as a dental hygienist but went on to work for a few years at Community Action in Mason City.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the church guild, and was a founding member of the Newman High School Booster Club.
She enjoyed reading, especially poetry, knitting and crossword puzzles.
Martha is survived by her husband, Gordon, of Mason City; two sons, Tom Bieth and his wife, Kathy, of Montrose, Colo., and Ted Bieth and his wife, Joyce, of Plymouth; four grandchildren, Lee and Casey Bieth of Montrose, Colo., and Annie and Molly Bieth of Plymouth; one brother, Bud Morden of Tipton; four sisters, Pauline Rupe, of Tipton, Arlene Kinney, of Cedar Rapids, Florence Lightfoot of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Helen Matthews, of Barrington, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Solem; and one granddaughter, Jessica.
