MASON CITY — Myron H. Barnekow, 84, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A private family celebration of life for Myron will be held Friday, Aug. 26, 2016. Per Myron’s request, his body will be cremated and there will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank or the Humane Society of North Iowa. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Myron was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, the son of Myron H. and Marie (Redlinger) Barnekow Sr.

He graduated from Solomon Juneau High School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1950. Myron served in the U.S. Navy as a weather observer from 1952-55.

Following his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1959 with a B.A. degree.

Myron married Joyce Grudney and to this union two children were born, Bruce and Beth.

Myron’s employment history began as a controller for Gabberts in Edina, Minnesota, then as an accounting manager for Montgomery Wards and then retiring as a controller for Medical Arts Press, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.

Myron married Marylu E. Mudd April 26, 1985, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Some of his interests included fishing, golfing, camping, reading and photography.

Myron is survived by his wife, Marylu of Mason City; two children, Bruce (Karen) Barnekow of Mason City, and Beth M. (Joe) Sparks of LaQuinta, California; two step-children, Richard (Kim) Mudd of Baltimore, Maryland and Mary K. Mudd-Hayden of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren; one brother, Richard (June) Barnekow of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and one sister, Madaline Baaske of Wisconsin.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents.
