Mason City – Larry J. “Bruny” Brunstein, 68, of 1531 6th Place SE. Apartment 206, died June 24, 2006 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel 126 3rd St. NE. Reverend Thomas Healey will be the officiant. Military rites will be provided by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 27 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.

Larry Joe Brunstein was born December 11, 1937 to John F. and Inez F. (Ingham) Brunstein in Mason City. Larry attended Mason City Public Schools. In 1954 he enlisted in the US Navy serving his country as radioman until his honorable discharge in 1958. He was then employed by Armour and Company for 17 years. Larry also worked at Mason City Iron Works and later was a bartender at Pete’s Place. In later years he worked for Pinkerton as a security guard at the Kraft Food Company until his retirement.

Larry had a wonderful sense of humor and we will always remember the funny stories he told of things that had happened to him. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved to meet with his friends for breakfast every morning. Larry especially enjoyed writing poems of which one was published.

Larry is survived by his son Jim Brunstein Mason City, and daughter Vicki (Brunstein) Johnson (Russ Roath) Mason City. Five grandchildren, Crystal, Cameron, Daniel, Cody and, Dustin. Sister Betty Magner Mason City, brother Don (Bonnie) Omaha, NB, sisters Marlys Jaspersen Cedar Rapids, and Jacki (Paul) Kuhn Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Inez Brunstein, brother in law Leo Jaspersen, and niece Tia Brunstein.

Larry especially appreciated his close friendship with Gordon Schupbach and the late Don Lichman.
