Mr. Harvey Vinton Wallace Brakke, 74, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, May 8, 1997 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10 at the Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile, Iowa, with the Rev. Roger Kampstra officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. The family suggests memorials to the Harvey Vinton Wallace Brakke memorial.

Harvey was born on the family farm, rural Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of Halver and Tillie (Thompson) Brakke on May 8, 1922. He was baptized and confirmed in the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills.

Harvey attended rural school through eighth grade and then helped his dad with the farming which pleased his dad. Harvey married Irene Gladys Lovick on May 21, 1943 at the Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile. They continued to live on the family farm until 1 when they bought a farm north of Clear Lake, where he had lived ever since.

Harvey enjoyed farming, going to farm sales, vacationing in the summer and winters with his wife and other family members, and fishing in the summers. He always made time for visitors with a game of cards, a light-hearted conversation and refreshments.

He was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Brakke, Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Jeff Brakke and his wife, Theresa, and their children, Barak and Haley, Joice, Iowa, Tom Brakke and his wife, Candy, and their children, Tabitha and Sara, Clear Lake, Lori Brakke, Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Jan. 14, 1992; one brother, Don; one half-brother, Bob; and two half-sisters, Helen and Ethel.

Pallbearers were Jeff Brakke, Rudy Monson, Herbert Hangdahl, Tom Brakke, Ray Charlson, and Wallace Johnson.
