Donald Robert Boyer, 86 of Clear Lake, died Friday, March 11, 2016 in Apache Junction, AZ.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave. N., Clear Lake, with Rev. Dr. Jaqueline Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City with military honors provided by Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Family suggests memorial contributions to Opportunity Village in Clear Lake.

Donald was born May 15, 1929, the son of William Joseph and Daisy Mae (Shields) Boyer in Winterset, IA. He was united in marriage to Charlene Fishburn on August 11, 1948, and to this union a son was born. He later married Marvene Boyer on June 27, 1954, in McIntire. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2011.

Donald grew up and attended country school while helping his father farm. He was a United States Army veteran, serving for two years. He worked nine years at Forrester Trailer Factory, Winnebago Trailer Factory, and delivered Winnebago Motor Homes to dealers for three years. He also worked at Armour in Mason City and managed the Drake Park Apartments in Des Moines for three years.

Donald was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, American Legion and Royal Neighbors of America. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, and attending rodeos.

Donald is survived by five children, Norman (Sheila) Craig of Preston, MN, Beth (Kim) Boelman of Huxley, IA, Roger Boyer of Clear Lake, Richard (Monika) Boyer of Muscatine, IA and Karla (Doug) Hills of Cedar Park, TX; ten grandchildren, Andrew (Tara) Craig, Lee (Teresa) Craig, Adam (Dena) Boelman, Joshua (Jessica) Boelman, Nicole Boyer, Kolton (Molly) Boyer, Kaleb Boyer, Kally Boyer, Katherine Hills, Geoffrey Hills; six great-grandchildren, Ryland Craig, Evan Boelman, Gabrielle Boelman, Emma Boelman, Alexis Boelman, and Luke Boyer; two brothers, Gerald (Ethel) Boyer of Spencer, IA and Clifford (Marge Sheldon) Boyer of Mason City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marvene; two brothers, Ernie and Lloyd Boyer; and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Ruby and Earlene Boyer.
