Mary Katherine Block was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Michalovich. She was one of three children born to her parents. Mary had lived in the Mason City area for most of the past 50 years.

On May 25, 1973, in Detroit Lake, Minn., Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert H. “Bob” Block. One of the favorite activities they treasured together was dining at the Prime and Wine in Mason City, where they developed close friendships with many of the staff.

Mary was a devoted wife and took great pride in nurturing her daughter, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was faithful in remembering the special days in her family’s lives with cards, and her family states that she was an avid letter writer, “a master communicator!” She enjoyed traveling in her earlier years, canning and making pickles. Some of her other leisure activities included shopping, baking and cooking. She was known to delight each individual family member with their favorite food prepared especially for them when they visited. Mary looked forward to her weekly appointment at the beauty shop, where she also had developed close friendships.

Those left to cherish the memory of her life include her husband, Bob Block, of Mason City; her daughter, Linda (Neal) Levad-Passow of Helena, Mont.; her grandchildren: Christopher Levad and Kevin Levad of Fort Collins, Colo., Kim (Wes) Nussbaum of Billings, Mont. and Kirby (Miranda) Levad of Palm Desert, Calif. She will also be sadly missed by her great-grandchildren: Quincy and Mason Nussbaum, Levi Levad and Leif Levad; her special life-long friend, Dorothy Catron of Seattle, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
