DAVENPORT -- Sister Mary Hugh Brady, 94, of the Congregation of Humility of Mary Center, died Friday (Aug. 25, 1995) at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Humility of Mary Center Chapel, Davenport, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.

Visitation is at 4 p.m. today at the center, with a vigil service at 7 tonight. Memorials may be made to the Congregation of Humility of Mary Retirement Fund. Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Mary Hugh Brady was born March 28, 1901, in Keswick, a daughter of Hugh and Mary Bender Brady.

She entered the Congregation of Humility of Mary on July 20, 1920, and professed her vows on Sept. 1, 1922.

She received her master of arts degree in history in 1949 from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.

She was employed as a teacher, teaching primary and lower grades to begin with. She became a high school teacher in the 1950s. Her first mission was at St. Anthony's School in Des Moines. She taught in Des Moines, Dunlap and Cosgrove, Iowa, from 1922-26. She also taught at St. Mary's School in Marshalltown from 1926-27; St. Vincent School in Davenport from 1948-51; St. Mary's School in Ottumwa from 1951-53; and Dowling High School in Des Moines from 1954-59. Then from 1959-64 she taught at Catholic schools in Le Mars, Iowa, where she served as a superior. From 1965-66 she served at Catholic Central High School, Great Falls, Mont., and from 1971-89 she worked in Clear Lake, Iowa, in child care. She retired in 1989.

Survivors include three sisters, Edna McKenna, North English, Rita Thomas, Keswick, and Delphia Devine, Sigourney; and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
