Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaDouglas Inacio Escobedo, 58, of Marion, formerly of Mason City, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a Trisagion service at 6 p.m. Funeral Services: 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, by Father Peter Andronache of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation on Monday will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.
Survivors include his mother, Verna Escobedo of Marion; brother, Randy and his wife, Kay Escobedo, of Marion; niece, Aunna and her husband, Brian Wickman, of Madison, Wisconsin; nephew, Noah Escobedo of Colorado Springs, Colorado; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially aunt Juanita “Jane” Fults of Kellogg, Iowa; and cousin Delores Orozco of Des Moines.
Doug was born June 23, 1956, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Inacio “Jack” and Verna (Birke) Escobedo. He was baptized at the Evangelical Brethren Church in Ventura, Iowa. Doug loved music, especially bluegrass and listening to his dad play the accordion. He had a passion for trains and liked to go to Boone for rides. Doug and his family enjoyed traveling and camping in many states, Canada, and Mexico. His family was very important to him and he will be greatly missed by them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack; and his grandparents, Jose and Delores Escobedo and Virgil and Margaret Birke.
