NOTE: Dick served during World War II as a Ship's Pharmacist's Mate. After his discharge from the Navy, he was employed at a local drug store where he met Margaret Mary Johnston. They married February 28th, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their first two sons, Daniel and Harry, were born in Minneapolis. Dick then obtained employment with Abbott Laboratories Pharmaceutical Company. This required Margaret and Dick to move to Galesburg, Illinois, where daughter Anita, was born. Margaret and Dick always wanted to be closer to Minneapolis so Abbott transferred the family to Waterloo, Iowa, where their third son, Richard was born. Eventually Margaret and Dick were transferred by Abbott to Mason City, where they retired.
