George L. Scholl, the oldest Rockwell resident, age 101, died Thursday (September, 12, 1996) at the Rockwell Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Father Stephen Meyer officiating.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Parish Center where a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Gallagher Post of the American Legion. Fullerton Funeral Home of Rockwell is in charge of arrangements.

George was born on Dec. 25, 1894 the son of Frank and Catherine (Funk) Scholl in Rockwell. He graduated from country school and then served his country in the Army during World War I. He served from 1918 to 1919 in France.

Following his honorary discharge he attended Iowa State College Mechanics School in 1921. He than worked as a mechanic in Rockwell where he was a life time resident.

George was united in marriage to his wife Barbara Kobliska on June 23, 1925 in Alta Vista.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gallagher Post #208 of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council #1006 the Rockwell Senior Citizens and the World War I Veterans. He also spent many hours playing Pinochle, 500 and Euchre as well as baking pies and cookies.

George is survived by three daughters, Barbara and her husband Ray Thuel of Johnstown, Pa., Doris and her husband Dale Patterson of Lakota, and Leona and her husband John Bonner of Swaledale; one son, Harold and his wife Loretta Scholl of Covington, Ky.; one sister, Mary Hogan of Rockwell; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1970, two sisters; Christine Rohner, Lucy Smith and seven brothers, Peter, Albert, Nick, Art, Bill, Roy, and Francis.
