Helen E. Utterback, 73, of 620 Briarstone Drive, Unit 25, Mason City, passed from this world to a better life on Saturday (April 6, 1996) at the Manly Care Center, Manly.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Chris Hellevik officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be given to the Helen E. Utterback Memorial Fund.

Helen was born on a farm near East Waterford, Pa., on Feb. 26, 1923, the daughter of Raymond and Lucy Mae (Love) Long.

After graduating from Juniata County High School, she worked in Harrisburg in the G.R. Kinney main office.

She was united in marriage to William F. Utterback on Dec. 20, 1944. After his discharge from the United States Army in January of 1946, Bill, Helen and their young daughter, moved to Des Moines where Bill completed his college education at Drake.

In 1948, they moved to Windom, Minn. After an early retirement, they moved from Windom to the Manly Retirement Apartments and later purchased a home in Mason City. Since 1972, they have also maintained a winter home in Mesa, Ariz.

Helen had a great love for her family and her church. She enjoyed playing bridge, playing golf and visiting with friends. She will be remembered as a kind, caring individual with a strong inner faith and strength.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Bill, of Mason City; two daughters, Barbara Backhaus and her husband, Earl, of Manly; Belinda Weber and her husband, Greg, of Montevideo, Minn.; one son, William (Bill) K. Utterback and his wife, Kim, of Perry; four grandchildren, Tammy, Angie, Luke and Nathan; seven stepgrandchildren, Dorothy, Eugene, Garry, Larry, Carnie, Katie and Tom; one great-grandson, Cameron; two stepgreat-grand- children, Aaron and Kelly; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Long, East Waterford, Pa., and Gloria Heyden of Tacoma, Wash.

She also leaves behind a host of friends in Windom, Manly, Mesa and Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1926; her mother in 1981; and her brother, Franklin on Jan. 21, 1996.
