NORA SPRINGS: Mary “Molly” Fredricks, 85, of 8 South Summit Avenue, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia, Mason City with Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Hospice of North Iowa or the Mercy Cancer Center.

Molly was born March 2, 1921 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, the daughter of Herbert E. and Lucy Mabel (Kildee) Winter. She attended Monroe Elementary School , kindergarten through the 8th grade, and graduated from Mason City High School in 1939. Molly attended Mason City Junior College for one year then graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, UNI, in 1944. Molly retired from teaching in 1983 after 39 years of teaching 2nd grade, 35 years of which were spent in the Mason City School System.

Molly married Melvin "Mully" Fredricks July 2, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church. They lived their entire married life in Mason City with the exception of 2 years in Minneapolis where Mully attended Dunwoody Trade School.

Molly was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church where she was confirmed February 21, 1932. She was a member of Monday Club, Wednesday Book Club, PEO Chapter IY, Delta Kappa Gamma, a life member of I.S.E.A. and the Local, State and National Retired Teachers Association. Molly was also a member of the Local, State and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Molly is survived by 2 nieces, Phyllis Anne Smith and husband Glenn of Lafayette, California, Karen Roper of Boulder, Colorado; 2 nephews, Dennis Tande and wife Mary Manering of Waunakee, Wisconsin, retired Col. John A. Thompson Jr. and wife Susan of Woodland Park, Colorado; 3 great nieces, Elizabeth “Libby” Tande, Logan Thompson and Elizabeth Roper; 3 great nephews, Alex Tande, John-Christopher “J.C.” Smith and John Roper; 4 sisters-in-law, Wanda Walker and husband Darrel of Nora Springs, Frances Kelley of Nora Springs, Marjorie Rockwell and husband Jim of Ramona, California, Milly Fredricks of Stacyville.

Molly was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mully in 1996; 2 sisters, Joyce Tande and Phyllis Thompson Lancaster.

Every day Molly recorded the weather in her diary along with a few notes about events of the day. Our forecast for her now is a gentle breeze, pleasant temperatures and sunny skies forever.
