February 26, 2016MASON CITY — Sandra “Sandy” Jean Powell, 69, of Mason City, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City.
Sandy was born on Oct. 30, 1946, in Mason City to George and Irene (Roggeman) Pierson. She resided in Mason City her entire life. Sandy was married to Dan Chisholm and to their union two children: Julie and Ramon were born. The couple later divorced but remained friends. On May 10, 1997, she was united in marriage to her husband Roger Powell and they spent 19 wonderful years together.
Sandy and Roger enjoyed having a good time. They would often take long drives. The couple absolutely loved camping. Sandy and Roger camped all over the state of Iowa; especially Okoboji. The minute their camper left the driveway Grandson Cody was begging to tag along. It was important to “Grams” to have him on their trips. Sandy liked trout fishing with Roger in Decorah. She was also an avid gambler.
For 30 years, she was a bartender at her family’s business, the Kozy Korner. The Kozy was extremely important to her and a big part of her life. She valued her customers and appreciated beer delivery man, Chuckie Robinson. Sandy had many patrons and friends because of her job. She was known for singing Karaoke with Mz Katie. Sandy sang anything Patsy Kline. She will be remembered by family and friends for her huge heart and vivacious personality.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Roger Powell of Mason City; children, Julie Perrott of Mason City and Ramon (Terri) Chisholm of Las Vegas, NV; step-son, Jimmy (Deb) Powell of Mason City and step-daughter, Jody (Larry) Nauman of Mason City; sister, Darlene Ballard of Des Moines; brother, Larry (Barb) Pierson of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Betty Pierson of Mason City; Sandy (Kurt) Spencer of Nora Springs, Mary (Dan) Blair of Nora Springs, Pat Powell of Mason City and Sharon (Fred) King of Charles City; grandchildren: Michael Perrott, Cody (Vanessa) Perrott and their daughter Brynnlee, Adam Chisholm, Leanna Chisholm, Chris Chisholm, Jason (Missy) Farrell and their children: Jason Jr., Brooke, Summer and Austin, Clayton (Sara) Powell and their children Colton and Dylan, Brandon (Sarah) Powell and their children: Alexis, Olivia and Maddie; special friend, Raleigh (Carolyn) King; special niece, Pam Hovey; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Irene Pierson; brother, George Pierson; and mother-in-law, Loretta Powell.
