Martin J. Thyne, 46, passed away Saturday (February 23, 2013) in Thornton.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (March 2, 2013) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street, Rockwell, with the Rev. Rodney Allers as Celebrant. In accordance with Martin's wishes, cremation will take place following the Mass.

Visitation will be held Friday evening (March 1, 2013) at the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwell from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. where a Knights of Columbus Rosary and a Scriptural Wake service will follow.

Martin Joseph Thyne was born on September 4, 1966 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Martin L. and Gloria Thyne. He grew up in Amesbury, Massachusetts and graduated from Whittier Vocational Technical School from the Electrical Division. He then went on to become a Journeyman Electrician.

On August 11, 1990 he was united in marriage to Kimberly A. (McKinnon) Thyne; to which there were 3 children, Joseph Martin, Valerie Marie, and Michael Francis.

Martin and Kim moved to Thornton, Iowa in November of 1990 after visiting when they became engaged. Martin wanted to see what Iowa was like and why part of Kim's family lived there. He soon fell in love with this part of the country and started looking for a place to live and raise their children. He found it – and being from the East Coast he called Thornton "Little town living", and he loved it!

Martin was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell; he taught CCD for 11 years within the Parish and truly enjoyed working with the kids. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1006 of Mason City, of which he was Past Grand Knight and was very proud and honored to be the last Grand Knight in the old building and the first Grand Knight in the new building. He also became a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was a Past Faithful Navigator. He loved going to the State Conventions – they were not only a fun time for him, but he also met many Knights from all over the state of Iowa and also felt closer to his faith when he was in the Knights of Columbus family setting.

During his years as a Knight, he ran a fish fry crew, a steak fry crew, ran the pancake feeds, helped with the Tootsie Roll Drives, rang bells when he could and was always a large part of the 4th Degree Chicken Barbeque. He also spent many years bartending at the Knights of Columbus Hall for weddings, which he greatly enjoyed.

In Thornton, Martin was active within the Thornton Volunteer Fire Department, was a past EMT volunteer, co chairman for many years for Thornton Big Days, was heavily involved with Little League, and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader.

Martin was part owner of "The Electricians" in Mason City, along with his wife and Jay and Kris Leaman. He was a Master Electrician and held electrical licenses in Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, and numerous cities in Missouri. He got to see "God's Country" as he referred to the Mid-West. Martin was a very hard worker and devoted a huge part of his life to the Company which he took a lot of pride in.

Martin enjoyed golfing as a family and fishing with Michael. He loved to cook – it was one of his passions and he was an awesome cook, no one went hungry when Martin was around.

Those left to cherish Martin's memory are his loving wife of 22 years, Kimberly Thyne, Thornton; daughter, Valerie Marie and her fiancé Rusty Aldrich, Rowan; son, Michael Francis, Thornton; father, Martin Thyne, Amesbury, Massachusetts; Father and Mother in Law, Frank and Barbara McKinnon, Rockwell; sisters, Nancy (David) Dunham and Kathleen (Brian) Patterson; brothers and sisters in law, Frank and Dolly McKinnon, Lehigh Acres, Florida, Barbara Rich, Rockwell, Jim McKinnon, Scott McKinnon, both of Rockwell, and Julie Payer, Chapin; nephews, Joseph and Joshua McKee, Davis, Dunovan, Marcus, and Lucas McKinnon; nieces, Jamie and Amanda McKinnon, Nicole Rich, and Sabrina Patterson; business partners, Jay and Kris Leaman; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, friends, and numerous business associates.

He is preceded in death by his stillborn son, Joseph Martin, mother; Gloria Thyne; maternal and paternal grandparents; and other family members.
