Mary McGaheran At Rest

Mary McGaheran, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J[ohn]. B. McGaheran has gone to her final reward. The flower that we watched bud here on earth has been plucked by the Master to bloom throughout eternity.

Bravely she fought against the last enemy, Death, but the odds were too great and just at the break of day the conflict closed and the spirit of this sweet patient sufferer winged its flight to glory.

Mary McGaheran was born at the old homestead in Dougherty township, March 26, 1893, and died at the family home in Rockwell, September 4th, 1910.

About eighteen months ago signs of tubercular trouble became visible and at an early date the patient was removed to the state sanitarium at Oakdale, but physicians there held out no word of hope and a few weeks later she came home. With an outdoor sleeping room, best of nursing and all the comforts that money could procure she lingered here for nearly a year a sweet comfort to the inmates of the home across the threshold of which has fallen the first great shadow, into which has come the first consuming grief. Day after day she busied her hands with the mementoes that speak only of the transitory things of earth, but day after day her young heart was drawn nearer and nearer to the cross of calvary. With the hand of faith she laid hold of the things that endure thoughout all eternity.

The funeral services were held in Sacred Heart church Tuesday forenoon and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.

Requiem high mass was solemnly chanted with Rev. J. J. Clune as celebrant, Rev. L. H. Burns deacon, Joseph J. Boyle sub-deacon, and Rev. P. D. Reilly master of ceremonies.

Never in the history of a Rockwell funeral was there such a profusion of floral tributes, and the spacious church edifice was filled to overflowing with sympathetic friends. The mortal remains were borne to their final resting place [Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery] by Messrs. Emmet Campbell, Patrick Boyle, E. J. Gallagher, Joseph Gallagher, J. F. Campbell and Joseph O'Connor.

The stricken household has the sympathy of the community in this hour of trial.
