Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa<Mary Margaret Gallagher, 90, of Rockwell, died Monday (March 4, 2013) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday (March 8, 2013) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street, Rockwell, with the Rev. Rodney Allers as Celebrant. Committal services will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening (March 7, 2013) in the chapel at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwell from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M., with the Rosary to be recited at 7 P.M.
Mary Margaret Gallagher was born on May 21, 1922 in Rockwell, Iowa, daughter of Joe and Margaret (Kelley) Gallagher. She attended and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Rockwell. Following high school she attended Mason City Junior College and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls before teaching one year at a country school near Rockwell.
Mary Margaret began her 40 year banking career as a teller at the Rockwell Credit Union before eventually becoming the President of Community State Bank in Rockwell.
Mary Margaret enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Europe, Ireland, Hawaii, and around the United States to see family and friends or to attend banking conventions. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, watching nieces and nephews play sports, and exercising and walking. Mary Margaret loved the church, and devoted much of her time to prayer.
Mary Margaret leaves behind a loving family to include brothers, Harold (Peggy) Gallagher, Hampton, IA and Tom (Dorothy) Gallagher, Rogers, MN; sisters, Marcele Ermer, Rockwell, Marilyn Johnson, New Hope,MN and Cleone Silan, Woodland, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Margaret Gallagher and three brothers in law, Gerald Johnson, Mike Silan, and Richard Ermer.
