Joseph Edward was born on Dec. 16, 1940, in Rockwell, Iowa, the son of Joseph David and Pearl Iola (Weaver) Campbell. He became one of the seven children in the family. He attended Sacred Heart School and was baptized and confirmed in the church. Following his education, he became a surgery assistant at Mercy hospital. Leaving this position, he moved to Seattle, Wash., where he jointly operated a tavern establishment for many years. He then moved to Wichita, Kan., for a short time before moving back to Rockwell. Joe then moved to Mason City where he lived until entering the care center in Rockwell.

Joe loved to travel, spent a great deal of time on the road, and especially enjoyed his trips to Hawaii and Canada. His second greatest joy was his dogs — Peter, Patty and Blossom.

Joe also really enjoyed watching football and other sports on TV, and playing bingo.

Surviving Joe are his sisters, Mary and her husband, Elmer Vierkant, San Diego, Calif., Frances “Jean” Neuroth, Las Vegas, Nev., Irene Ginapp, Rockwell; and brother, William Earl Campbell and wife, Chris, of San Antonia, Texas; and many, many nieces and nephews. He also became family with the staff at the care center, giving most of them pet nicknames.

His parents and two sisters, Lois Vierkant and Betty Latch, preceded Joe in death.
