Born Aug. 3, 1903 in Wexford, Father Bohrer was graduated from Loras College, Dubuque, and received his theological training at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Md. He was ordained June 14, 1930, by Archbishop Francis J. Beckman at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque.
After his ordination, Father Bohrer served at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, and as hospital chaplain in Waverly before becoming associate pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.
In 1937 he was assigned chaplain of Mercy Hospital, Mason City. A year later he became pastor of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, BLuffton. He had several parishes in Rockford, Rockwell, Cartersville and Swaledale before joining the Mason City Team Ministry in 1972.
He was appointed temporary administrator of St. Joseph Catholic Church here in 1974. Although he was to retire in 1975, Father Bohrer began helping with the pastoral ministry at Mercy Hospital in Mason City in 1974. By 1976 he had become a full-time chaplain at the hospital.
Of his job as chaplain, he said in a Globe-Gazette article in 1975 that, "Morale building is a big job. Sickness is a hard thing. . . . Some call it job counseling. I can't flatter it. I call it listening."
In June 1980, Father Bohrer celebrated his 50th anniversary in the Catholic priesthood.
Father Bohrer was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1006, third degree; Monsignor Dougherty Assembly of Knights of Columbus, fourth degree; and the Lions Club of Mason City.
