Garnet M. (Neubauer) Schermer, 88, of Latimer, died Thursday (Dec. 24, 2009) at the Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services for Garnet Schermer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Richland Lutheran Church in Thornton with Pastor Samuel Schmeling officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Lutheran Cemetery in rural Thornton.

Visitation for Garnet will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at the Dugger-Ewing Funeral Home in Latimer.

Garnet, the daughter of Fred and Erna (Ziebell) Neubauer, was born on July 2, 1921, at the family home near Hubbard, Iowa. Garnet was baptized on July 24, 1921, at St. John's Evangelical Church in Hubbard. On April 14, 1935, she was confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buckeye, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School with the Class of 1939.

Garnet and Edward W. Schermer were united in marriage on Dec. 19, 1939, in Iowa Falls. The couple made their home in the Latimer area where they farmed and raised their four children. After raising her children Garnet worked at the CAL School and the Latimer Locker.

Her Lord and her family were the most important things in Garnet's life. Garnet will be mostly remembered for her wit and sense of humor.

Garnet is survived by her children, Lurlin (Judy) Schermer of Charles City, Lynn (Susan) Schermer of Little Rock, Ark., Loren (Sue) Schermer of Clear Lake and JoEllen (Lynn) Arends of Hampton. Also surviving are sisters, Fern Tidman, of Hubbard and Geneva Hayden of Port Richey, Fla., and one brother, Kermit Neubauer of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Edward.
