PIONEER OF CLEAR LAKE TOWNSHIP DIES AT HOME
MRS. MCGUINESS’ RITES ARE PLANNED FOR TUESDAY AT RESIDENCE

CLEAR LAKE, March 13 – Mrs. John McGuiness, 71, died at her home at 509 North Fifth street at 4:45 o’clock Sunday afternoon after a short illness. Although her health had been failing since the death of her husband, Oct. 21, 1930, she had not been confined to her bed before the past few weeks.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the McGuiness home, the Rev. W. B. Milne officiating. Burial will be made in the Clear Lake cemetery.

Mrs. McGuiness, whose maiden name was Martha Alma Heath, was born at Big Rock, Ill., Feb. 16, 1862, where she grew to young womanhood. She was married to John McGuiness, Feb. 28, 1880 at East Paw Paw, Ill., where they resided for three years. In 1883 they settled on a farm 4 miles northwest of Clear Lake, where they lived for 37 years.

On Feb. 6, 1920, the family moved to the present home here.

Mrs. McGuiness is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Nettie Young, Mrs. Mayme Marshall, Clear Lake; Mrs. Maud Wood, Hayward, Wis.; Mrs. Iva Davis, Mason City; Mrs. Margaret Buss, Des Moines; two sons, William McGuiness, Sumner, and Hugh McGuiness, Kansas City; 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

An infant son and an adopted son, Andrew Nissen, preceded her in death. All of the children were at home when she died.

She was a member of the Linger Longer club of this city. Mr. and Mrs. McGuiness celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in March, 1930.
