DEATH OF HENRY MCGOWAN

Sunday evening Henry McGowan passed away, after a lingering illness of several months. Since May he had not been able to leave his bed. He had been a resident of Clear Lake for about 35 years, and was a man of strict integrity and unswerving in his faith and relations with men and church.

The deceased was born in New York City, April 21, 1851, and when a year old moved with his parents to Johnstown, Wis., where he resided until 18 years of age, coming to Clear Lake in 1880. On August 25, 1881, he was united in marriage to Ella Palmer. To this union were born four children, a son and daughter dying in childhood.

He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, a son, James Palmer McGowan, of Chicago, and a daughter, Mollie Palmer McGowan, of Clear Lake, two sisters, Mary and Anna, residing on the old homestead in Johnstown, Wis., a brother, Rev. Wallace McGowan, pastor of Presbyterian church at Langford, S.D., all being present at the funeral.

Mr. McGowan united with the Congregational church in 1881, and had always been a faithful and consistent member. He hauled the first stone for the present Congregational structure.

The funeral was held at his late home Wednesday afternoon, under charge of Rev. W.A. Marzolf, pastor of the Congregational church.

Transcriber’s Note – Henry McGowan was born April 21, 1851, died November 2, 1913 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 1 Row 6.
