W. M. MCCALMON, 64 DIES, R.R. VETERAN

Funeral services for William Mack McCalmon, 64, were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the Congregational church with the Rev. Verne Spindell in charge of the services. A veteran railroad conductor, he passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, at his home.

Mr. McCalmon was born Oct. 10, 1878, in Dakota, Illinois. He lived with his family there until 1889, when he went to South Dakota as a telegraph operator for the Milwaukee railroad. In 1901 he went into the train service for the same railroad as a brakeman. He continued to work for them for 41 years.

On Nov. 20, 1915, he was married to Gertrude Eleanor Hopkins of Clear Lake. The ceremony was performed in Chicago. He was a member of the Masonic lodge having become a member in Southland, S.D. Masonry was one of his primary interests in life. He was also a member of the Order of Railroad Conductors.

Mr. and Mrs. McCalmon came to Clear Lake on Sept. 29, 1942, following the retirement of Mr. McCalmon due to his health. They planned to make their home in this city. He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Mrs. Gertrude McCalmon, one brother, Harold, of Rockford, Illinois.

Members of the Masonic lodge of Clear Lake acted as pallbearers.

DEATH TAKES WM. M’CALMON
RITES WILL BE HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON

CLEAR LAKE – William Mack McCalmon, 64, died Sunday morning at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Harriet Hopkins, West street.

Mr. Hopkins, only a few weeks ago had retired after 41 years of service as a conductor on the C.M. and St. Paul railroad out of Sioux City and Sioux Falls. The latter city was his home for several years. He was born Oct. 10, 1878, at Dakota, Ill. With his wife, who survives him, he had come to Clear Lake last Dec 29. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Gertrude McCalmon, he is survived by a brother, Harold McCalmon, Rockford, Ill. The body is at Ward’s funeral home.

Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at Ward’s with the Rev. Verne Spindell in charge. Masonic burial will be in the Clear Lake cemetery.
