DEAN WAYNE MCCLEARY

CLEAR LAKE – Dean Wayne McCleary, 56, of 1214 S. Shore Drive, Administration Hospital, Minneapolis Veterans Administration Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Clear Lake VFW Post 4868 will provide military honors.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. The family suggests memorials in the name of Dean Wayne McCleary.

Dean Wayne McCleary was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Windom, Minn., the son of Wayne S. and Alvarette (Pufohl) McCleary. He graduated from Jeffers High School, Jefferson, Minn., in 1955. He entered the United States Navy serving from 1956-1966. He served as a mechanic for the Blue Angeles and later did recognizance flying during the Vietnam War.

He married Verna Jean Thompson on June 24, 1967, in Windom, Minn. The couple lived in Minneapolis, Minn., area where he worked for Northern Air Motive as a mechanic on small aircraft. He later worked for Fox Industries as a sheet metalist. The couple moved to Clear Lake in 1983 when they bought the Silver Boot Motel. He started the Clear Lake Taxi Service and owned and operated the business. He was known as “Big Daddy” to residents of Handicap Village in Clear Lake. He loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his wife Verna (Jeanne) of Clear Lake; his mother, Polly McCleary, Windom, Minn.; and a son, Tim McCleary, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his father in February 1986.
