MRS. EMMA SMITH DIES IN SLEEP

Mrs. Emma Louise Smith, 74, died in her sleep Sunday morning about 6 o’clock at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Colburn. She had been in poor health for fifteen years and a week ago got a cold and came to the home of the Colburns. She seemed to be getting along fine. Mrs. Colburn was down stairs and talked to her mother about five o’clock in the morning.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Williams’ Funeral Home. The Rev. B.A. Davis of the Methodist camp, conducted the rites and burial was made in the Clear Lake cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Pinckney, H.N. Halvorson, C.C. Branson, R.C. Ingersoll, Otto B. Petersen and H.A. Lord. Mrs. A.R. Petersen played appropriate music during the service. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. H.N. Halvorson, Mrs. Chris Estergard and Mrs. Sam Kennedy.

Mrs. Emma Louise Smith was born Sept. 24, 1866 in Dover, N.H., a daughter of Lysander Richard Mayo and Nellie Stevens Mayo. She lived there until April 24, 1890 when she was married to John A. Smith and the couple moved to Clear Lake. Two children were born to this couple.

She was a member of the D.U.V. and the oldest member of the Rebekah lodge. Members of both organizations attended the funeral in a body. She was a member of the Baptist church when a girl. She attended the Methodist church here but was not a member.

She is survived by a son and daughter, Mrs. E.A. Colburn of Clear Lake and Roland Smith of Iowa City. Also three step sons, John of Clear Lake, Edward of San Francisco, Calif., and Leo of Phoenix, Ariz. Also three grandchildren, Mrs. Ed Nelson and Bob and Jeanne Colburn, and two sisters, Mrs. Marion E. Wright and F. Helen Mayo both of Boston, Mass. Mr. Smith died April 1, 1916.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland Smith of Iowa City and Mrs. C.J. Meilsen of Davenport attended the funeral.
