JOHN A. SMITH DIES AT HOME
FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE WEDNESDAY, 2 P.M., AT 200 JEFFERSON

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for John A. Smith, 64, died at his home, 200 Jefferson street, Monday morning, will be held at the residence at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Thomas B. Collins, pastor of the Methodist church, will conduct the rites and burial will be in Clear Lake cemetery. Williams funeral home is making arrangements.

Mr. Smith had been in failing health for a year but had taken to his bed only Saturday. He was down town less than a week ago.

Mr. Smith was born at Clear Lake Jan. 30, 1878, the son of John A. and Mary Bokelman Smith, and had lived here all his life. April 15, 1908, he was married to Miss Minnie Hintz and to them was born on daughter, Lois, now Mrs. Ed Nelson, Clear Lake.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. E.A. Colburn, 110 North Elm street, and three brothers, H.L. Smith, Phoenix, Ariz.; E.J. Smith, Santa Ana, Cal., and Roland Smith, Iowa City.

During his active years Mr. Smith was a clerk in local stores, being employed for long periods at the Halvorson, Oluf T. Hansen and company and the M. E. Carey stores. He also operated a grocery store of his own for a time.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Methodist church, of Verity lodge No. 250, A. F. and A. M. and Park chapter o. 35, O. E. S. for many years he was a very active member of the Clear Lake fire department.
