THORNTON MAN FOUND FROZEN NEAR TRACKS

THORNTON – Otto Schmidt, 64, was found dead Thursday morning near the Chicago and Great Western tracks here. Robert Sawyer, an employee of the Thornton Enterprise, found the frozen body on his way to work.

Tracks in the snow showed that he had probably fallen on the tracks in the below zero cold and then crawled to the Woodford Wheeler Lumber Co. building a few feet away.

Cerro Gordo County authorities were investigating the cause of death.

Schmidt, who had been employed at the Farmers Elevator here 28 years, had no suvivors in this country. His brother and sister in Denmark were notified of his death.
