Rosemary J. White

CLEAR LAKE - Rosemary J. (Pose) White, 100 Fifth Ave. N., Clear Lake, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Nov. 5, 2008) with her children and family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with George Gregory, C.S., officiating.

Visitation with family will begin at 3:30 p.m. preceding the service.

Memorials may be directed to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Clear Lake, or the Clear Lake Public Library.

Rosemary was the daughter of Eugene H. and Ruth E. (Green) Whitney. In 1913 she was the first child born in the home her father built at 414 N. Shore Drive.

She married Donn E. White on Oct. 10, 1932, in Lena, Ill. He preceded her in death in December of 2000. They spent 68 loving years together, many of those years in the house on the lake built by A.H. Green, her grandfather.

Donn and Rosemary lovingly raised five children: Diane (Lloyd) Ashland, Judi (Norm) Hansen, David (Christina) White, R. Jeanne (Steve) Achenbach and Ruthi (John) McMonagle. Her family also included 12 grandchildren: Amy (John) McCourt, Donn (Nikki) Ashland, Ann (David) Bull, Linda (Jeff) Finer, Lance (Mark) White, Todd (Debra) White, Troy (Wes) White, David (Audrey) White, Matthew White, Joshua (Melissa) White, D. Robert Ekberg, and Mary (Shawn) Poulter; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Rosemary loved sailing and was an avid swimmer. At age 18 she swam from City Beach to Bayside. She continued swimming well into her 80s with her good friend Marilyn. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Science Church, both the Clear Lake branch church and the Mother Church in Boston, Mass.

She loved to read, and was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and did many craft projects throughout the year. She always dreamed of joining the circus and threatened to run away with them.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Darllene (Jack) Whitney; and many special nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by nine siblings, brothers Gene, Lon, Charles, and Jack; sisters Bonnie, Helene, Cherie, Ruthe and Juliet.

In Rosemary's own words ... I have things to do, you can go now.
