Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaJoann Bartz, 75, of Mason City, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit surrounded by her family.
Joann (Heizelman) Bartz was born on November 9, 1936 in Mason City, IA, She was baptized into the Christian faith on May 8, 1937 and confirmed that faith on July 9, 1950. She married Eugene Allen Bartz on March 4, 1956. They lived and farmed north of Grafton where they raised four children; Bonnie Jean, Michael Eugene, Brenda Kay, and Mark Allen. She was blessed with six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Through the years, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working and later co-owning a small grocery store in Grafton, serving on Election Boards, decorating cakes for family and friends, bowling, cutting meat for a restaurant in St. Ansgar, rocking babies at a day care in Mason City, occasionally trying her luck at casinos, “master card player” with her friends and family, and attending country music concerts.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Dean Crosier of Bloomington, IL, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Greg Evenson of Boone, IA, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Becky Bartz of Mason City; granddaughter and husband (from her daughter Bonnie) Kathryn and Matt Lollar, great grandchildren Bridget and Graham Lollar, grandson, (from her daughter Bonnie) Kelsey Thayer, grandsons (from her late son, Michael) Adam Bartz and Trevor Bartz, and grandsons (from her daughter Brenda) Ryan and Karl Billings.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Eugene Bartz, her husband of 35 years Eugene Allen Bartz; her brothers, Edward Heizelman Jr. and Donald Heizelman; her mother and father, Hanna (Beisel) and Edward Heizelman Sr.
She was set free on June 1, 2012 to be with all those she loved that had passed before her in her Father’s House. She was a loving, caring and giving woman who will be missed by all, but not forgotten.
