Thomas Arthur Holmes, 75, retired farmer, died Sunday afternoon at a Mason City nursing home. He had farmed in the Mason City area 47 years and retired in 1957. He made his home at 311 5th NW.
Mr. Holmes was born Nov. 20, 1886, at Shabbona, Ill., son of Robert and Mary (Follett) Holmes. He was married to Marguerite Murray, April 14, 1915, at Dubuque.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, Thomas Murray Holmes, Riceville; Leroy Holmes, Mason City; and John R. Holmes, Plymouth; two daughters, Mrs. William C. (Mary Louise) Altiz, Kensett, and Mrs. George A. Pappas, Mason City; 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Three brothers, Louis Holmes, Mason City; Harry Holmes, Clear Lake; and Roy Holmes, Knoxville, and six sisters, Mrs. Edward (Ruth) Fessenden and Mrs. George (Mary) Rose, Mason City; Mrs. Earl (Grace) Trimble and Lois Ashland, Clear Lake; Mrs. Clarence (Christie) Neuberger, Klemme; and Mrs. Ferry (Esther) Baker, Clear Lake, also survive.
Mr. Holmes was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Requiem high Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Joseph section of Elmwood. Visitaion is at the Patterson-James Chapel. The parish rosary has been set for 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel.
