Velma Rose found dead in her home

The body of Velma Ione Rose, 67, was found Tuesday evening by police at her home, 319 Carolina N.E. Dr. J. E. Christopherson, county coroner, said death was due to natural causes and had occurred about March 21.

She was last seen alive Sunday evening, March 20, according to neighbors. They had not been alarmed at not seeing her, since as a practical nurse she had often gone on cases for long periods of time.

When the postman picked up a 10-day accumulation of mail for the second time, relative were informed and police investigated.

Mrs. Rose was born June 5, 1892, at Mt. Vernon, daughter of John and Stella (Woodcox) Garrett. She had lived in Mason City about 10 years coming here from Plymouth.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth Chapin, Mason City; a daughter, Mrs. George (Doris) Grundel, Lyle, Minn.; a brother, Merrill Garrett, Mt. Vernon; a step-daughter, Mrs. Walter (Maria) Phillips, Plymouth, and 17 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Glenn Chapin, in 1950, and second husband, Arthur Rose, in 1954.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Patterson - James Mason City Chapel. The Rev. Charles Birchmeir, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Plymouth, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
