R. Sweeney dies at 60 in hospital

Raymond E. Sweeney, 60, retired petty officer in the U.S. Navy, died Monday evening at a Mason City hospital. He had lived in the community 20 years and made his home at 815 Washington SW.

Mr. Sweeney was born Sept. 1, 1900, in Savanna, Ill., son of Patrick and Katherine (Brennan) Sweeney. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret G. Hansen, Mason City. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Visitation at the Patterson-James Chapel is after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

[Interment was made at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.]
