Joe Kavaya, 77, dies in California

Joe Kavaya, 77, former resident of Mason City from 1911 to 1955, died Saturday at Whittier, Calif., after a long illness. He had been making his home at 13119 Helmer Drive in Whittier.

Mr. Kavaya was born Nov. 15, 1883, at Niksic, Crna Gora, Yugoslavia. He is survived by his wife, Viola; five sons, George, Resta, Bob, Dan and Nick; three daughters, Dorothy, Jennie and Goldie, and nine grandchildren.

A son, Nick and family, live in Mason City. The rest of the family live in California.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Steven's Serbian Othodox Cathedral, Alhambra, Calif.
