OBITUARY

The funeral of Mr. Geo. Oxley took place at the home six miles south of Clear Lake last Friday afternoon. Rev. Evans officiated in the services assisted by Rev. Kennedy. The choir comprised of Miss Olive Swan, Miss Grace Eddy, Mr. C. A. Swan, Mr. C. E. Brayton accompanied by Miss Helen Miles sang special songs. The body was buried in the Clear Lake cemetery.

Mr. George Vincent Oxley was born Dec. 25, 1858 in Jefferson county Wisconsin. His parents moved to Fayette county Iowa when he was five years old where he lived until moving to Clear Lake in 1882. He was married March 5, 1884 to Louisa Hugh and moved onto the farm south of town where he lived until his death.

Seven children were born to this union, one child dying in infancy.

Mr. Oxley is survived by his wife and six children, Mrs. Pearl Hickok, who lives south of Ventura and Willie, Harry, Ruby, Vern, and Alice who live at home. He also leaves a granddaughter, six brothers and one sister.

The deceased had always enjoyed good health until January when he was seized with a nervous disorder and his death occurred at the Park hospital in Mason City August 9th.

Mr. Oxley was a quiet and assuming man but had a large circle of friends by whom he was much respected. He was devoted to his family, his love of wife and children inspiring him to kindly deeds and gentle words; his fidelity to his friends were all marked features in his life.

This community has friends who were devoted to Mr. Oxley and who join with the family in their bereavement.

Transcriber’s Note – George Vincent Oxley was born December 25, 1858, died August 9, 1916 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 2 Row 13.
