Obituary - Anna Margaretha (Gerdes) Floy
April 05, 1857 ~ March 05, 1922

Death of Mrs. Floy

Anna Margaretha, daughter of Gerd Gerdes and his wife, Margaretha Harms, was born on the 5th of April, 1857 in Oldenburg, Germany. She was baptized in the Baptist faith, January 25, 1874. In 1887 she came to America to her brothers, Fred and Diedrich Gerdes living near Sheffield. She was united in marriage with Karl P. Floy, February 25, 1884. Making their home at first near the McKinzie church, they later moved to a farm west of Thornton, where she lived until last August when she and her daughter Laura moved to their own home.

Mrs. Floy was the mother of a large family. Her own children are Hans, Gerhart, Carl, Mrs. Anna Bruce, Mrs. Meta Johnson, Mrs. Lela Nelson, Mrs. Kate Nelson, Fred, John, Laura. Added to her motherly care were her husband's three children by a first marriage, Mrs Mary Miller, Mrs. Lena Bramsen and Peter Floy. All are living in the vicinity of Thornton.

Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1920. Besides the children two brothers; Fred Gerdes, Sheffield, Iowa; Gerd Gerdes in Minnesota; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Eilers, Sheffield, Iowa and Martha Brand, South Dakota.

For 12 years she had been a sufferer from Diabetes. By careful dieting she was able to prolong her life and make it beautiful. But her condition grew worse and when, last Tuesday, pneumonia was added it was apparent that the end was near. She passed away Sunday afternoon.

She was a life long member of the Baptist church. Since there was no church of her faith near by she attended services at the Lutheran church without taking out membership. She was buried from the Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, the pastor Rev. Wm. Engelke officiating. A good mother, patient in her suffering, confessing her faith in the Savior, she is numbered with the Blessed.

Her six sons were the pall bearers.
