DAVID ARTHUR LANG

CLEAR LAKE - David Arthur Lang, 45, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (May 14, 2002) at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the David A. Lang Memorial Fund.

David was born May 15, 1956, in Mason City, the son of Art and Margaret (Allen) Lang. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1974 and from Spencer Business College in 1976.

David then returned to the Mason City/Clear Lake area to work in the hotel industry. He was first the manager at the Sheraton Hotel and then the manager and bookkeeper and the Best Western Hotel in Clear Lake.

David was united in marriage to Judy Poole on Aug. 12, 1995, at the First United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, where he was a member.

He loved fishing, hunting, playing pool and playing baseball, where as a child his nickname was "Big D" because he was the biggest kid.

He also loved animals, especially his miniature toy poodle, Misty. David enjoyed playing jokes on and teasing his nieces and nephews, and he never wanted his family to worry about him.

David is survived by his wife, Judy, of Clear Lake; two sons, Nathan Lang of Trimont, Minn., and Jaime Loeckle of Mason City; a daughter Nicci Lang, of Trimont, Minn.; one brother, Clifford "C.J." Lang; his wife, Starr, and their son, Cale, all of Clear Lake; one sister, Molly Goetzinger, her husband, Dave, and their children, Chris, Abby and Ryan, all of Mason City; a sister and brother-in-law, Paulette and Danny O'Dell and their children, Dawn, Christine and Freddie, all of Clear Lake; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Mussman and her children, Shelly, Tim, Jamie and Terry, all of Clear Lake; and a brother-in-law, Bob Poole and his children, Christopher and Matthew, all of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy, Curtis Lang; paternal and maternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
