HAZEL MAE MCKINLEY

Hazel Mae McKinley, 77, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, May 19, 1997 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 22, at the Agape Christian Family Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. David Toyne and Rev. Dennis Toyne officiating, both sons of Hazel McKinley. Burial was in the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Iowa. The family of Hazel Mae McKinley request memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Hazel was born May 11, 1920, in the N.W. Territory in Canada, the daughter of Pearl and Mary Maude (McCarty) Burgher. She attended and received her education in the Maloy, Iowa school system graduating from high school. She also received her teacher’s certificate from the Merryville, Mo., teacher’s college. After completing her education she taught in rural country schools in southern Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Maurice Gail Toyne on July 23, 1941 . He preceded her in death in 1961.

She was united in marriage to Clarence McKinley on Nov. 7, 1964. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1986.

Throughout her life she did volunteer work for the Jefferson Hospital and other organizations. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, nature, sewing and quilting, but her great love was being a devoted Christian.
Hazel was a courageous survivor of cancer who lived to love and care for her family.

She was a member of the Agape Christian Family Church in Clear Lake, former member of the Assembly of God Church in Hampton, Iowa, and was former member of the Abundant Life Ministries Church in Jefferson.
She is survived by three sons, Daniel Duane Toyne and his wife, Lindy, of Reelsville, Ind., Rev. Dennis Lee Toyne and his wife, Sandy of Greenbay, Wis., Rev. David Lyle Toyne and his wife, Kristine, Clear Lake; three daughters, Carol Ann Anderson and her husband, Bernard of Broken Arrow, Okla., Darlene May Toyne, Mason City, and Kyla Jones and her husband, James Robert of Norwalk, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Drake, Mt. Ayr, Iowa; and one brother, Bill Burgher and his wife, Delores, Blairesburg, Neb.; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Maureen Kay Toyne; and three brothers, Lyle, Donald and Howard Burgher.
