HOLMES PATRICK PEDELTY

EDINA, Minn. — Holmes Patrick Pedelty, 67, passed away Monday (April 19, 2004) at his home in Edina, Minn.

Holmes Pedelty was born on Aug. 9, 1936, in Dougherty. He was raised in Clear Lake, where he lived most of his life. He and his wife, Jane Pedelty, moved to Edina in 1983.

Holmes was united in marriage to Jane Duesenberg on Oct. 27, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Mr. Pedelty was a managing partner of the North Iowa Livestock Exchange in Garner, as well as the Farmers Auction Market in Eldora. Holmes’ agricultural reports and commentaries were carried daily by 15 radio stations throughout the Midwest, and his weekly market analysis and commentary was carried on KIMT television in Mason City.

During his career, Holmes delivered hundreds of speeches to farmers, businessmen, and consumer groups.

He also taught Accounting and Fundamentals of Financial Management for Buena Vista College on the North Iowa Area Community College Campus from 1984-1985.

Mr. Pedelty served on the Board of Directors of Norwest Bank in Mason City, and was a member of Corn Belt Beef Council, American Society of Agricultural Consultants, the Grade Standards and Labeling Committee of the National Cattleman’s Association, the Advisory Committee of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and chaired the Iowa Governor’s Beef Task Force and the Iowa Beef Industry Council’s Marketing Committee.

Mr. Pedelty earned his MBA from the University of Iowa.

Holmes served on several community organizations in Iowa and Minnesota, including the Board of Directors of Magnum Chorum, St. Olaf University’s Alumni Choir.

He also served on several committees and organizations in Clear Lake, including co-chairing the committee to acquire land for Handicap Village (now Opportunity Village), and was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church Board of Education and a lay member of the Clear Lake Interfaith Council.

Holmes is survived by his wife, Jane Pedelty; and three children, daughter, Lori Pedelty and her husband, Mark Ormond; son, Kevin and his wife, Joan Pedelty; son, Mark and his wife, Karen Miksch; and seven grandchildren, Adam, Jason, Taylor and Blake Ormond, and Veronica, Griffin, and Samantha Pedelty.

Holmes was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ross Pedelty; mother, Mary Electa Pedelty-Kelley; and two brothers, J and Thomas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Church of Saint Patrick, Valley View and Gleason Road in Edina.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Gill Brothers Southwest Funeral Chapels, 5801 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, and one hour prior to the mass on Thursday at the church.

Gifts in memorium may be sent to the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Edina.
