LAVONNE RAE HICKLE

LaVonne Rae Hickle, 75, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess, and Richard Scott-Lay Assistant officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. The family of LaVonne Rae Hickle has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

LaVonne Rae Hickle was born on Aug. 6, 1930, in Mason City, the daughter of Raymond A. and Cara A. (Shaner) Shaffer. She received her education in the Mason City schools, graduating from Mason City High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage to Gordon Hickle on July 10, 1948, in Mason City. Gordon preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1984. After their marriage the family lived in Mason City before moving to Clear Lake in 1972. LaVonne began her career as manager in the human resource department of the Economy Fire and Casualty Company in Mason City and was employed with them for 29 years until her retirement in 1990.

She enjoyed crafts and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's sporting events and traveling with her family. LaVonne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Clear Lake Women's Club.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: the Rev. Greg Hickle and his wife, Julie, of Maple Grove, Minn. and Jeanine Klang and her husband, Tim, of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Gretchen Coats and her husband, the Rev. Doug Coats of Maple Grove, Minn., the Rev. Chris Hickle and his wife, Jennifer, of St. Michael, Minn., Emily Klang of St. Paul, Minn., and Stephen Klang of Clear Lake; five great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jamin Coats, Ethan, Elias, and Abigail Hickle; a sister, Frances Cox of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and a brother, Richard Shaffer and his wife, Paulette of Ft. Lauderdale, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; and her son, Steven Hickle, in 1954.
