Ethel was born May 20, 1905, the daughter of George and Laura (Millard) Long in Lake Township. In 1923, she graduated from Clear Lake High School. Following high school she was united in marriage to Lloyd Ames, and to them were born nine beautiful children. Later, she was united in marriage to C. Edmond Ransom. As a life-long resident of the area, she was a cook for Freddie's and Lytle's Restaurants.

But what she really loved was her apartment and friends at the Shalom Towers.
