Ethel Marie Haverly was born on March 11, 1919, in Wesley to John and Clara (Johnson) Haverly. She attended school and graduated from Wesley High School. On April 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Lawrence G. "Larry" Lang and to this union seven children were born.

For many years Ethel and Larry owned and operated Lang Distributing in Mason City. Every morning Ethel would tend to their children and the home and then head over to the business to work in the office. Ethel had an extraordinary work ethic that often went unmatched, but as busy as she kept there was always time for her children's activities.

Ethel was known by her family for baking, especially her trademark chocolate chip cookies, as well as cooking, bowling for many years, working bingo and gardening both flowers and vegetables. She also taught herself to play the organ by ear and loved playing "Heart of My Heart" and "Ally Cat."

Although she kept a full schedule, Ethel and Larry were always available and helping at events at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Ethel's faith was the cornerstone of her life; she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Cecelia Circle. Her devotion was evident as she attended Sunday and daily Masses.

Those grateful in sharing in Ethel's life are her seven children, Marilyn (David) Myli, Fort Myers, Fla.; Larry (Joan) Lang, Jefferson; John "Jack" (Margaret) Lang, Mason City; Marcia (Jim) Siegel, Austin, Minn.; Richard (Cindy) Lang, Clive; Patrick (Sue) Lang, Ankeny; and Michael (Val) Lang, Ankeny; and 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Scott Myli; brother, Don Haverly; and sisters, Mary Lou Studer, Ruth Loebig and June Hauptman.
