Obituary - L. Ava (Williams) Hedrick Bowman
May 14, 1916 ~ April 27, 2013

L. Ava Hedrick Bowman, 96, died April 27, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House. She was born May 14, 1916, in Milford, IA. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max Hedrick and Don Bowman; her parents, Frank and Lena Williams; and her sister, Marian Buchanan. Ava is survived by her 3 children: Kent (Patty) Hedrick; Jean (Paul) Anderson, and Neil (Mary) Hedrick; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Hedrick.

Ava was an elementary school teacher in Iowa for many years. She and Max lived in Mason City, IA, nearly 50 years, then moved and lived in Cedar Rapids, IA. Ava lived her last 6 years in Overland Park, KS.

A memorial service will be Saturday, June 29, 2013, 2:00 at Knox Presbyterian Church, Overland Park, KS. Internment will follow at Mason City, IA.

We had a wonderful memorial celebration for her at Knox Presbyterian Church in Overland Park on Saturday, June 29th, and then a shorter memorial gathering in Mason City, IA, on Monday, July 1st, to honor her wishes that her cremains would be joined with her first husband, Max around the same tree in East Park that was planted for Max 13 years ago. It seemed very appropriate, as her dad, Frank Williams, was planting trees in the family's front yard on the day of her birth in 1916, and the Mason City tree is the final earthly resting place for her. We miss her, but we know she had a long, full life on Earth and will enjoy an eternal life from now on.
