Martha J. “Marty” Ouverson, 70, of Clear Lake, passed away Friday, Jan. 14,
2011 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa surrounded by her
family.

According to her wishes, Marty’s final gift was to the University of Iowa, that
her donation may benefit the medical community.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 at the United Methodist
Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Diana Hoover and the Rev. Wendy Abrahamson as
officiants. Inurnment will be held in the Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Martha J.
Ouverson Memorial Fund in care of her family.

Martha Jane Ouverson was born April 22, 1940 in Traverse City, Mich., the
daughter of Dr. C.E. and Helen (Doyle) Lemen. She graduated from Traverse City
High School in 1958. She attended Michigan State University and Western Michigan
University. She married Jay Russell Ouverson June 16, 1961 in Traverse City and
then moved to Clear Lake after their marriage. After having her three children,
she graduated from NIACC’s ADN nursing program in 1974 and finished her four
year BSN degree from Buena Vista College. She worked as a nurse in several
communities where they moved, the Park Hospital in Mason City and hospitals in
Spencer, Estherville, Jefferson, and Webster City, Iowa before retiring and
moving to Clear Lake in 2002.

Marty enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren the most. She also loved
music and taught piano for many years. She played the organ and piano for
several churches including Wesley Methodist and St. John’s Episcopal Church in
Mason City. She was a member of Progress Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, PEO,
Chapter LE, and United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. She and her husband
served the church as visitation pastors since 2003. They loved to camp and spent
winters in Weslaco, Texas for five years.

Marty is survived by her three sons, Brian (Mary) Ouverson and his son, Spencer
Ouverson of Stratford, Iowa, Todd (Chris) Ouverson, and Chris’ son, Braiden, of
Clear Lake, and Todd’s children, Stephanie Ouverson and Casey Ouverson of Des
Moines, Iowa; Eric (Elizabeth) Ouverson, and their children, Emma and Erin, of
Webster City; step-grandchildren, Cassie, David, Dylan, and Mariah;
great-grandchildren, Peyton and Aubrey; step-great-grandchildren, Tyson and
Maleah; brother, Ted and his wife, Cecile, of Denver, Colo.; sister, Janet
Thomson, Traverse City; mother-in-law, Ellen Mae Ouverson; aunts, Lucile
Westover and Maxine Westover; as well as several nieces and nephews and other
relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jay, in 2008.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
