Marcia E. Volk, 82, of 1200 10th Ave. N. Clear Lake, died at her home surrounded
by her loving family and friends on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 after a long battle
with cancer.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, at the United Methodist Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating. Interment was in the Clear
Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Marcia E. Volk Memorial Fund.

Marcia was born Sept. 17, 1928 in Eldora, Iowa the daughter of Ernest and Lena
(Miller) Ames. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1946. She was an avid
basketball player in high school and received many athletic awards. She attended
A.I.B. Institute in Des Moines on a basketball scholarship.

She married Ralph Volk on June 30, 1950 in Eldora. They lived in Gifford, Iowa
until 1960. They moved to New Hampton, Iowa and lived there until 1970. She
worked in the Sears Catalog Store and for the New Hampton Newspaper. In 1970
they moved to Clear Lake where she worked for the Mirror Reporter, Younkers in
Mason City and also did tailoring for Cottage Cleaners.

She was known for her pies that she sold at the farmers market. She enjoyed
cooking, sewing, playing bingo and cards and doing puzzles. She was a huge
animal lover. She and her husband, Ralph, enjoyed being snow birds and spending
their winters in Texas. She was a wonderful grandma and was a grandma to many.

Marcia was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, and the Clear
Lake V.F.W.

Marcia is survived by her daughter, Sue Janka and her husband, Michael, Clear
Lake; six grandchildren, Hillary Janka, Clear Lake, Craig Volk and his wife,
Nicole, Lakeville, Minn., Kristin Anderson and her husband, Aaron, Waverly,
Iowa, Ryan Volk and his wife, Kristin, Altoona, Iowa, Jason Janka, Curlew, Iowa
and Holli Gorman, New Hampton, Iowa; ten great-grandchildren, Reece and Macklin
Volk,
Trice and Quinn Anderson, Caleb Volk, Jason, Jordan, Jade and Jacob Green and
Jordyn Janka; one sister, Murriel Miller, Okemos, Mich.; and many nieces and
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; son, Tim; three
brothers, Don, Alfred and Richard; and six sisters, Esther, Ruth, Thelma,
Lillian, Rachel and Helen.
